What's a Wiki?
Watch the video to get a great understanding of what a wiki is and why you'd use one.
A little History- incase you were wondering...
- The word wiki is a Hawaiian word meaning 'quick' or 'fast'. There are currently many wiki tools available via the internet. Simpley put, a wiki is a web page that can be manipulated by many authors and is primarily used for collaborative creative work.
- You might be most familiar with a wiki in reference to Wikipedia. It's the online encylopedia that brings free knowledge to people all over the world in their native languages. It was proposed on January 10, 2001 and launched on January 15, 2001. Since then wikipedia has experienced mass expansion. Within just a year it encompassed 18 language editions and offered 20,000 articles. The rapid growth continued and the number for the following years were as follows: 26 language editions by the end of 2002; 46 by the end of 2003; and 161 by the end of 2004. While safeguards are in place, it's content is created by people from all over who share their expert knowledge in all areas. It's a massive collaborative knowledge bank. What a great resource!
